Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Huntington Ingalls Industries
Bharat Amin is executive vice president and chief information officer for Huntington Ingalls Industries, America’s largest military shipbuilding company and a provider of manufacturing, engineering and management services to the nuclear energy, oil and gas markets. Named to this position in January of 2020, he is responsible for establishing the company’s IT and Digital strategic direction with a focus on Cyber security capabilities maturity through effective engagement with HII’s executive and sector leadership teams. In support of this goal, he will lead our corporate governance & functional oversight, key digital technology partnerships, the development of digital innovation & data analytics and risk assessment capabilities of all information systems across HII.
Amin joined Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries in December 2014. During Bharat’s tenure with the shipyard, he led the Information Technology division through a digital revolution, redefining how we build ships today and for future generations through transformation initiatives such as Integrated Digital Shipbuilding, Digital Innovation Lab and Data Analytics. Prior to that he held various leadership positions at BAE Systems Inc., including Business Technology Officer, Vice President and CIO for BAE Systems’ Inc’s largest sector. His responsibilities included the strategic development, use, and support of information management and technology function; management of the sector’s IT budget for its U.S. product lines; and functional oversight of the sector’s operations in the United Kingdom, Sweden, and South Africa. He was instrumental in leading various information technology infrastructure and business transformation programs across the operating group globally.
Amin has held various IT leadership positions, formulating and implementing enterprise IT strategy, architecture, policy, and cyber security. He has sponsored and led number of global and U.S.-wide IT initiatives, to integrate businesses in defense and commercial industries. Amin also held leadership positions in industrial engineering and IT at Electrolux Group North America, a global consumer goods manufacturing company.
Amin holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Maharaja Sayajirao University, as well as a master’s degree in industrial engineering and an Executive MBA in International Business and Finance from Rutgers University. He is Executive Director Technology Business Management Council Board, Chair Global SAP Aerospace & Defense Industry Advisory Council, Board of American Heart Association Eastern States Region & Hampton Roads, Verizon manufacturing & Industrial Customer Advisory Board, the Forrester Leadership Board – CIO Group, and the Society of Information Management (SIM).
